Transforming Early Learning

What Are They

What are Loose Parts

Loose Parts are open-ended materials that have endless play possibilities. Loose Parts can be found, collected, up-cycled, or purchased. We view Loose Parts as an educational philosophy as these materials: promote active learning; support children's learning through a play-based, child-centered way; require teachers to be thoughtful and intentional in scaffolding children's learning and designing intriguing environments.

Safety

Loose Parts require special considerations when it comes to safety. Because Loose Parts are generally found materials, extra precaution is needed to assess their size, durability, material, and age-appropriateness. The best safety precaution is adult supervision. Never use objects containing lead or other poisonous chemicals.
